Great Indoors Store Closing Nationwide

Sears Holdings Corp. reports it is planning to close all nine of its Great Indoors stores.

Sears, based in Hoffman Estates-based, informed store managers Thursday of the pending store closures.

Former Sears Chairman and CEOArthur Martinez conceived the Great Indoors big box concept in 1998 and hoped the retailer would operate 200 stores. However, the concept peaked with about 20 stores.

The last surviving nine stores are located in Chandler and Scottsdale, Arizona; Lone Tree, Colorado; Lombard, Illinois; Gaithersburg, Maryland; Novi, Michigan; Columbus, Ohio; Farmers Branch and Houston, Texas.
